What Are The Symptoms Of Diarrhea?

My son has had diarrhea (not severe) over the last few days. After soccer practice tonight, he looks ashen, is nauseated, says his arms and legs are tingling and feel like they are asleep, and is very clammy but had a low (96 F) temp under the tongue.

Diarrhoea itself is a symptom and it means increased frequency of stools. Diarrhoea is classified as mild, moderate and severe depending on severity; watery, bloody depending on contents. Profuse watery diarrhoea can give rise to dehydration and fluid replacement is necessary in this condition.

From your description, it appears that your son is dehydrated as a result of diarrhoea and vomiting. Give him plenty of fluids to drink, soft diet and oral rehydration solution. I would recommend loperamide 1 tablet stat to control the diarrhoea. If he continues to remain drowsy after about 6 hours of this treatment, take him to the nearby hospital. He might need IV fluids.
