What Are The Symptoms Of Asthma?

I recently took a z-pack for possible pneumonia or bronchitis. I wasn't where they could take an x-ray. I still have a cough and a wheeze when I breathe. Is this asthma? I also have shortness of breath. Especially when I walk for any distance. Is it something worse?

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. If this is your first episode of wheezing/breathing difficulty, then you should not worry about asthma at present. It could be a bronchitis or pneumonia due to infection also.

2. If you have such episodes in past, it could be asthma or some other lung disorder.

3. I usually suggest my such patients spirometry with post-bronchodilator reversibility testing which is useful to diagnose asthma and other lung disorders and also measures lung capacity. X-ray is not very useful to diagnose or rule out asthma.

4. As you get shortness of breath after walking some distance, it should be a concern for you. I would suggest you to consult your physician and get examined to identify the possible cause. He may suggest you some tests also which may help.

5. I would like to know more about you like your age, other symptoms (if any), nose symptoms, any allergies, other medical conditions, other medications, etc. It will help to know more about you as well as to make suggestions more specifically for you.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
