What Are The Symptoms Of A Fistula?

What are the symptoms of a fistula. I noticed something pop out in my left buttock several times, but it would go back in. As of yesterday the pop out is staying. A lump. I seem to have some anal drainage now too. No pain, really. Almost looks like things are gathering to a large ish head. No pus but it looks irritated. Maybe from ice when I thought it was a bulging hemmeroid. Then I applied heat. After walking the golf course it looks slightly bruised. Is a doctor visit necessary? I have many outer, big hemmeroids that seldom if ever bother me.

A fistula in ano as in your care, is a tract which connects the peri anal area to the anal canal or even to the rectum. The tract can be diagnosed by radiological method of injecting a dye and taking an XRay. The management of these fistula is surgical, when the entire tract has to be excised under anesthesia, and allowed to heal with proper dressings and antibiotics. You will have to consult a gastero-surgeon or a general surgeon for management.
