How Can Disorientation, Sharp Pain Behind The Neck, Headache And A Kind Of Hallucination Post Injury Be Treated?

My husband was in a head on collision light to moderate impact yesterday around 8:30am. No complaints of injury until this afternoon complaints of sharp pain in back of neck and headache came on abruptly. He fell asleep for a nap around 1:30pm and when woke is when symptoms were noticed. He seems disoriented, said head feels swollen and feels like chocolate is running down his face. He is sleeping at this time and when asked if he needed to go to the dr he said he can t get up the dr will need to come to him. He has always been a heavy sleeper and when brupptly woken disoriented. What should I be aware of for his current symptoms and is he safe sleeping?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury . It presents with loss of consciousness which is temporary and last for less than 1 minute and amnesia.Headache may happen in any head trauma even without concussion but if this is severe or associated with nausea, vomiting and dizziness then you need to visit ER and do head scan to rule out more serious injuries. It can occur after an impact to your head or after a whiplash-type injury that causes your head and brain to shake quickly back and forth. If the concussion is causing headaches, we recommend over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol). Also, you need to avoid lights, noise and smoky areas for several days. If there is no improvement you can see doctor but in most cases this is not required.
Wishing you good health. Regards
