I have been having dizzy spells, not sure if it is vertigo. My doctor gave me Meclizine but it does not seem to be helping. I made an appointment with and ENT but I have to wait 1 more week to see him. In the mean time I have to deal with the dizziness.
Meclizine is poorly effective for the majority of cases of "dizziness" yet it is prescribed with what I refer to as "reckless abandon" at times from ER's, etc. First, dizziness has to be defined as either VERTIGO or not and then, the UNDERLYING cause needs to be sought and discovered. Medication (meclizine or not) is not going to resolve problem if the vertigo is because an inner ear problem, a circulatory problem, or a brain problem. Your next best move is to see a NEUROLOGIST or if possible a NEURO-OTOLOGIST. The time of 1 week to see a specialist is not bad at all. If you wanted to be seen sooner then, you could try a CVS pharmacy Minute Clinic but typically those are staffed by Nurse Practitioner and from what you're stating I don't think it's likely that you would get much more than either the meclizine back at a higher dose or something else geared toward just treating your symptoms without looking for a cause. Please rate this a 5 STAR CONSULTATION and write me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi for more questions or comments.
