What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For Stomach Flu?

Hi, i would like some advise please. I have suffered with extreme constiation for years, mainly due to my intake of co-codamol on a daily basis for years (due to RA). The begining of September 2014 i woke in the early hours of the morning in extreme pain, with stomach cramps. It felt like labour pains they were that bad. I sat on the toilet doubled over, and feeling nauseous at the same time. Anyway, i loose bowel movements, cramps, gas ect which carried on the next day and i thought i must have a stomach bug. This bad stomach though lasted until just before the new year. I started getting really bad pain right in the middle of my left buttock. it was extremely painful, and worse when waking up. i put it down to my RA, although i have never suffered with pain in this region before, but thought maybe it was my hip bone. This pain then spread to my rght buttock, and felt more like nerve pain. after a few weeks it subsided, and now i have on off upset stomach, with lots of gas. The last few days i ve been getting a really bad pain deep in my rectum, feels like a throbbing cut or something, this is after passing loose stools. i keep putting off going to the doctor, as i had a clear coloscopy 4 years ago. could you give me any advise please?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read all your queries in details and will give you answer.

Stomach bloating is caused mainly because of air swallowing known as erophagia.

The causes of stomach ache or gas trouble are irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, constipation ,celiac disease, sprue, bowel obstruction etc

You may need complete blood count,ESR ultrasound abdomen with upper GI endoscopy. Here, your colonoscopy is normal as you said.

You should start some medications like proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) avoid excess carbohydrates and fatty foods, avoid oily and spicy foods.

Stop cocodamol (which you are taking for RA) for initial few days.

If you still have these problems then you should go to gastroenterologist to treat underlying cause.

Regards,
