What Are The Spinal Issues That May Surface From The Small Hole On The Lower Back Of A Baby?

What are the spinal issues that may surface from the small hole on the lower back (above the buttocks) of a baby? The neonatologist just advised me that there may be spinal issues, but he was gone before I could ask what they may be. Please help me...this is in reference to one of my premature twin boys...born 08/08/2013.

As you have explained it would be Spinabifida, its a birth defect. There are two forms mild and sever forms
Mild form is not seen and would not give much problems. Severe form has two meningocele where the fluid leaks out the spine and in meningomyocele the nerves pushes out the spinal canal. In this case the child would have bowel and bladder problems and weakness of the lower limbs.
Please meet a neuro surgeon and they would help you. Thanks
