What Are The Side Effects Of Using Cocaine During Pregnancy?

My sister is 33weeks pregnant and has used cocaine off and on. She has quit now for 2weeks. If she stays clean until after baby comes will the baby system be clean? How does the hospital check for drugs? If the mother is clean do they still check baby urine or blood

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome.
Cocaine use during pregnancy is associated with maternal migraines and seizures, premature membrane rupture, and separation of the placental lining from the uterus prior to delivery.

Babies born to mothers who use cocaine during pregnancy are often prematurely delivered, have low birth weights and smaller head circumferences, and are shorter in length than babies born to mothers who do not use cocaine.
Hope this helps
Take care
