What Are The Side Effects Of Pumpkin Seed Oil Pills?

My question is, my son is almost 33 years old and he wants to take pumpkin seed oil pills for hair loss. Do you recommend this pills for hair loss and what is the side effect? And how many mg daily in take, 1000 mg or 2000 mg daily?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. before opting for any natural product make sure to get an appointment with a Trichologist to rule out any other pathology, who will make sure that he is not affected with any fungal infection of the scalp and only then proceed further.

2. although pumpkin seed oil [PSO] has been shown to block the action of 5 alpha-reductase and anti-androgenic effects on rats and thereby help regrow hair, however, the effect of PSO on Androgenetic alopecia [AGA] have not been established

3. You have to consult with a Dietitian or nutritional health care provider regarding its efficacy and although recommended dosage for AGA is not defined one can usually take it in a dose ranging from 500-1000mg daily [with meals]

PS. it is important to note that because it is a natural product thus allergic reactions are common with it [breathing problem, chest pain, hives] and if occur should be treated as a medical emergency
