Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Side Effects Of Meprate In Early Stage Of Pregnancy?
My wife happened to consume Meprate 10 mg tablets (twice a day for 5 days) in the third and fourth week of pregnancy. The doctor prescribed it for getting normal periods, since the pregnancy test proved negative at that time. But later it was discovered that she was already pregnant. Now the fetus is 9 weeks old. I found that these tablets are not safe during pregnancy because and can harm the fetus (abnormality in the genitals). What could be the risks involved and what should be done to minimise this risk? Is it OK to have the baby?
Dear patient, Thanks for your concerns as regards Meprate. Welcome to HealthCareMagic.
Meprate, also called as medroxyprogesterone, is a medication given for various conditions right from endometrosis to abnormal bleeding. The fact of the matter is that this drug can cause genital abnormalities in approximately 10 to 16 out of 1000 male births. It is OK to have the baby only if regular radiological examinations and other tests prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the fetus is normal.
Please consult a radiologist in tandem with an OBGYN in these matters. Kindly follow the above suggestions. The issue about Meprate consumption has thus been resolved. Things are fine. Feel free to post on the forum.
