What Are The Side Effects Of Drinking Bleach?

My son picked up a bottle of bleach about 2 1/2 hrs ago. I didn t see him drink it, when I saw what he had, he was pouring it on the ground. I didn t smell it in his mouth or his face. He told me he just poured it out. What if he did drink some? Would he be showing any sort of symptoms now?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...the kid cannot act this normal after drinking bleach. it is very caustic and he would have been in a lot of pain if he has touched it with his mucus membranes surface like mouth. The symptoms include - severe burning sensation in the local area/ redness/ severe vomiting/ excessive salivation due to inability to swallow saliva/ redness of the lips and tongue/ severe pain abdomen.
If these develop - I suggest you take him to the nearest emergency room immediately.
