Thanks for writing to us.
Loss of interest in having sex might not be the side effect of the medicine he is taking. It is common to lose interest in sex during abstinence from alcohol. You need to follow his psychiatrists advise regarding the dosage schedule and drug withdrawal.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

General & Family Physician Dr. Pavan Kumar Gupta's  Response
Sleepiness and loss of libido are common after taking acamprol.
Because The side effects of acamprol are few and mild and also because it is not addictive, acamprol is generally prescribed for up to 12 months after ceasing alcohol.
You must continue the drug and Any premature withdrawal of drug may result in rebound bouts of alcoholism.
Bear with few side effects and let the treatment be proper.
