What Are The Side Effects Of Spironolactone?

Thanks! I have been taking Spironalactone for many years and my new doctor reduced the amount I m taking. I think I may be having some side effects and want to get off of it completely. Can I stop cold turkey or do I have to wean myself off of it?

Hi & Welcome to HCM.

I appreciate your concern for the safety of Spironolactone.
Incomplete data: Age, gender, purpose for taking Spironolactone, duration of treatment.

Spironolactone use is associated with increase in blood potassium level, gynecomastia (enlargement of male breasts), lack of menses (females) and infertility in both the sexes.
You need not have to do a cold turkey (don't need to taper off).

However, before stopping please discuss this with your treating doctor. Your BP will need to be monitored when you come off this, and perhaps your doctor may wish to put you on some other medicine to treat the condition for which you have been taking Spironolactone.
Hope this answers your query.
