General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Nexplanon (Etonogestrel implant) is a contraceptive implant indicated for use by women to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years.

Its most common side effect is a change in your normal menstrual bleeding pattern. You may experience longer or shorter bleeding during your periods or have no bleeding at all. The time between periods may vary, and in between periods you may also have spotting.

Other side effects include breast tenderness or pain, mood swings, weight gain, headache, acne, depressed mood, vaginal inflammation or infection, liver disease, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots), hypertension, etc.

Based on the history you need to consult a gynecologist for proper examination and treatment of suspected vaginal infection.

Hope these answer your query.
