What Are The Side Effects Of Mucinex?

Hi, just reading about pvcs and mucinex. I have had pvcs for years and have been a more frequent over past months. I have a dry cough (still looking into the cause), and my dr. told me to take Mucinex DM. When I reminded him of my pvcs, he said no problem, I could take the mucinex DM. I have extreme pvc attacks if I use Sudefed (don t use it any more)---I am scared to try mucinex. Is plain mucinex less likely to aggravate pvcs as opposed to mucinex DM?

Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I can appreciate your concern for the safety of Mucinex.

First of all the exact cause of your cough investigations like chest xray, sputum examination, CBC, ESR, etc should be done to find the underlying cause like infection, allergy, etc.

The troublesome fast heart beats, anxiety, dizziness, increase in BP associated with Sudafed is NOT seen with the use of Mucinex, hence it is safer than Sudafed.

The side effects associated with the use of Mucinex are mild in nature which include nausea, vomiting, some time allergic rash.

Yes, plain Mucinex is not associated with pounding heart beats or aggravation of premature ventricular contractions (PVCs).

Hope this answers your query.

A feed back is appreciated.
