What Are The Side Effects Of Meprate?

I have PCOS from almost 6 yrs now. In 2011, my gynecologist found that my follicles have stopped growing enough to release eggs and treatment was started. In 2012 I was referred to an IVF specialist where I went through 2 IUI procedures. In 2013 my treatment was stopped as I was moving overseas. I was advised to continue taking Meprate 10mg every month for 5 days from day 21. Its been a year since my treatment stopped. Is it safe to take Meprate for for such a long time? Also I might not be able to start treatment again for another 1 year atleast. Would using meprate be safe?

Hello there,
I can understand your concern. PCOS is a very common condition in which ovulation does not occur every month because of which one may have delayed periods and other problems. Meprate is a medicine which has the hormone called progesterone which is not enough in PCOS women due to absence of ovulation. That is why it is suggested to be taken at the end of the cycle just so that you get a bleed every month. If you do not take the medicine you may get delayed and irregular periods. Other than that there is no other role of Meprate. Its ok to take Meprate for the duration that you have been taking as it is only for 5 days in a month and if you dont take it then you have unopposed estrogen in your body which may do you little more harm than being on Meprate. So overall Meprate for 5 days in the cycle is safe to use.
Its ok to take Meprate unless if you are planning to conceive or have already conceived.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
