What Are The Side Effects Of Lithium?

a doctor said I was bipolar and told me to take lithium and see if it worked. I took it for six days and then I have stopped for 2 weeks since it didn't do anything for me. I have a doctoral degree in Education and two masters degrees (in education and social work) and I do not think I am bipolar. I want to know if taking the medicine lithium for 6 days one 300mg a day can effect my brain or memory; it seems like it did affect my memory a little, I also want to know if it could effect my kidneys while using the lithium for only 6 days and will it effect me getting jobs as a therapist? Thanks.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Lithium carbonate is a good mood stabiliser drug. The drug is safe to use and you have used the drug for only six days. As per my opinion there is no effects of lithium on brain as far as memory or concentration is considered. The drug caused no effects on your kidney because you took the drug for only short time. The drug is safe to use and usually patients taking Lithium are advised to maintain hydration while taking lithium.

You are a educated person and as per my opinion if you have been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder then you should consider starting lithium as per your prescription again. The drug is safe to use and would not cause any significant harm to your health. This will help you in better functioning.

Thanks, I hope this helps you.
