Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the safety of Levaquin and Tylenol.
Use of Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in all ages.
This risk is further increased in older patients usually over 60 years of age, in patients taking corticosteroid drugs, and in patients with kidney or liver diseases.
It may also exacerbate
muscle weakness in persons with
myasthenia gravis.
Tylenol is one of the safest drugs used to relieve pain in patients with acidity related stomach ulcers, patients with bleeding disorders or
bronchial asthma.
Usually at the therapeutic dose it does not cause any side effect even on long term basis.
However when it is consumed in larger doses (more than 4-5 grams/day) it may cause liver injury which is reflected in the form of right upper
abdominal pain, vomiting, etc.
The blood tests will show raised enzymes including GGT, SGPT, SGOT,
Alkaline phosphatase etc.
The liver injury will be seen more in patients who take alcohol and certain drugs like Rifampicin, Carbamazepine or Phenytoin.
Hope this answers your query.
A feedback is appreciated.
Take care.
