What Are The Side Effects Of Clobetasol Propionate Ointment?

I was prescribed Clobetasol Propionate Ointment for my hands, as they re severely dry and cracked, up to my wrists. I was using it for nearly a month, until I noticed lightening of my skin. I was then told after wards that it shouldn t be used on cuts, but the doctor prescribed it anyway? I haven t used it anymore, due to the skin lightening. My concern is, will I have any other effects after using this ointment? Is there anyway to get rid of the lightening, or will it slowly go away on its own? I was never warned that lightening would be a side effect.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Long-term continuous topical clobetasol can produce atrophic skin changes such as thinning of the skin, irreversible striae and telangiectasia, and even adrenal suppression and Cushing’s syndrome. Contact dermatitis, irritation at site of application, spread and worsening of untreated infection, perioral dermatitis, acne/worsening of acne, reversible depigmentation and hypertrichosis are other local side-effects. So I suggest you to use only for short term. Do not use continuously for long term. For skin dryness, you can use Elovera or Evion cream three times daily or any over the counter emollient. Elovera will also help in skin lighting.
Thanks
