What Are The Side Effects Of Albumin?

Hello, I just want to know what is exactly Albumin, its side effects and how dangerous it could be. The reason why I m concerned is because my family doctor sent me for a blood test today and wants to check if I have Albumin. I don t really feel my feet, it feels as if I have a bunched up sock under and my legs feel very heavy.Can you please explain to me. Thank-you

I understand your concern.
Albumin is one of the chief protein present in plasma. It is one component of total proteins present in blood.
It has several important functions in the body like it maintains colloidal osmotic pressure, transport of substances, nutritive function and acting as buffer maintaining acid-base balance in blood.
Its normal levels in blood include 3.5 to 3.3 grams/dl and total protein levels in serum being 6 to 8 grams/dl.
Decreased protein levels in serum is called hypoalbuminemia. It presents with collection of fluids in interstitial fluids leading to edema (swelling). It is seen in feet, face and abdomen.
Hence to evaluate it, the doctor has advised to get your albumin levels checked.
