went for physical for work 2 days ago average bp was 143/110 tested 6 times over a period of 1 hour. retested today first test was 161/98 and last was 141/98 without medication is this too high for physical active 42 yr old. what risks are there with these levels?
Hi, the last reading is ok but the others are slightly out of range for your age. The problem here lies with your lower reading also called the Diastolic reading which should be less than 90mmHg. The risks of high BP are many including strain on the heart, clogging of arteries and can lead to dilatation or enlargement or even rupture of some vulnerable arteries. Therefore, it would be safer to keep it in check. I would suggest you see your GP or Doctor who can run some tests and advise as to whether you should start medication or not. But, first and foremost is diet control with restriction of salt and salt containing products like pickles in your diet. change your diet to a more healthy and natural source pattern and you will see and feel the change. Take care. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
