What Are The Risks And Benefits Of Lumbar Fusion Of L4-L5 Surgery?

Im a 37yr old female w previous discectomy 11 yrs ago L4-L5 due to ruptured disc during pregnancy. Physical therapy and steroid shots didn t work. Nerve pain in lower back and jolting pain while walking and severe inflammation is present. The S1 disc has some damage as well. Lumbar fusion of the two discs is recommended when the pain can no longer be dealt with. Im trying to locate a surgeon in the southeast Michigan area that is trained in artificial disc replacement for the lumbar region. Is there anyone doing this procedure and what are the risks/benefits?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The restriction of novenent can be a problem after the surgery. But the gradually progressive disc disease with debilitating pain needs a surgical treatment to improve the quality of life.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
