What Are The Recovery Steps And Time After Vaginal Hysterectomy With Groin Incisions?

I had a vaginal hysterectomy December 17, with groin incisions to insert a bladder sling. I noticed one of these incisions was swollen and lumpy but no one checked it, I was sent home and it turned into a large pus filled infection by christmas. I didn t go to my GP until January 2nd and was then put on antibiotics. A swab was cultured, it found anearobic infection so then they added flagyl to my meds. I ve since taken 2 doses each of antibiotics and flagyl and its now January 21. I have felt very weak, ill and in pain so was unable to walk much. Have mostly had to lie around with only short walks around the house. WHEN can I start doing things? Can I do any bending to garden? Is squatting still a no no? AND a physio at the hospital on day 2 told me I should start extensive kegals. As I had anterior and posterior mesh repair in there this did not seem wise so I did not do it. What do you think are my best steps for recovery? This infection has really set me back.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

This is indeed unfortunate at your doctor should have noticed the swelling and called you in for an earlier follow up. You also unfortunately ignored the presentation due to the holidays.

But for now, if the antibiotics are helping you. We can wait for about 10-15 days and then start with mobilization and only after 7-14 more days. With more strenuous exercises. May be even the kegels exercises then which will really help. For now please get as much rest as possible.

Complete recovery after a hysterectomy takes a few months, before you can go about all the routine activities. Please be patient. Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
