What Are The Primary Signs Of HIV And Its Duration?

Is it a must for the primary HIV signs to occur all together at a time? Or some signs can occur in some weeks and disappear and the others will follow in the coming weeks? And for how long will these signs last? Is it the must to have fever, sore throat and swollen lymph nodes or you can just have one among them?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Not all the people infected have symptoms of acute infection.
Around 40-50% of the HIV infected will have these symptoms. It is otherwise called as Sero-conversion illness. So it occurs anytime between 4-6 weeks after the possible HIV infection and usually manifested with 'FLU' like symptoms (fever, body pain, sore throat , lymph node enlargement). More than two symptoms usually will be present at any given time. Different manifestations can occur at different spells is a possibility. But it is difficult to come to a diagnosis of Primary HIV infection without a subsequent test for HIV (Antigen test). These symptoms not lasts longer than 2-3 weeks.
