What Are The Possible Treatments For Varicose Veins ?
I have swollen ankle which hurts on the side. I have not injured it in any way. I have varicose veins and it feels like a vein by the ankle hurts. I do have a problem with fluid retention in which I take a water pill. Some one mentioned it might be gout. just wondering. I have a ice pack on it which makes it feel better. Plan on going to the Dr. as soon as I can get in, but with the holiday's it will be questionable

I can understand your concern for swollen ankle which hurts on the side.
For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.
Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.
If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a dermatologist or any family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.
Keep you foot elevated and do not stand for long hours as it will cause swelling and more pain.
