Hello and i hope I can help you today.
Unfortunately being pregnant doesn't keep you from getting sick like anyone else. If you have been
vomiting or having
diarrhea, your abdomen could be sore and that may be why you feel pain with the baby's movements.
My concern is the tightness you describe in your abdomen. You may be having contractions from the
dehydration caused by your illness.
I suggest, now that you can eat and drink again, try to rehydrate yourself as much as possible. Plain water is fine, but drinks with some electrolytes can help if you've been vomiting. Any products made from ginger (candies, tea, etc.) are soothing to the stomach and help with
nausea. If the tightening in your belly continues, I would advise going to the hospital just to make sure you are not having contractions.
The baby, especially if it is moving, is protected from your illness and oblivious to your condition. As long as you feel good movement, this is a sign that the baby is active and healthy, in spite of your belly being sore.
I hope I was able to answer your question today and that you feel better soon.
Take care, Dr. Brown
