hello
welcome to hcm
i can completely understand your concern and worries about your wife, well intake of large quantity of alcohol is potentially dangerous and can cause many ill effects such as
(1) ACUTE ALCOHOLIC GASTRITIS....taking large quantity of alcohol in a short span of time i.e in few hours leads to increased production and secretion of gastric secretions containing acid, in the stomach and small intestines
(2) NAUSEA / VOMITING / DIARRHOEA ....excessive alcohol consumption leads to increased peristaltic contractions of the smooth muscles of stomach and intestines , which in turn leads to nausea / vomiting / diarrhoea....
(3) DEHYDRATION....loss of excessive body fluids and electrolytes because of vomiting and diarrhoea can cause
severe dehydration which can be potentially dangerous
(4)
ACUTE PANCREATITIS....intake of large amount of alcohol can lead to inflammation of pancreas,a condition called acute pancreatitis which can be a life threatning complication
(5)
HYPOGLYCEMIA i.e severely decreased level of glucose in the blood....brain utilizes only glucose for energy production required for optimal functioning of brain functions and hypoglycemia can cause loss of consiousness
(6) RESPIRATORY
DEPRESSION....excess alcohol causes decrease in rate and depth of respiration leading to decreased levels of oxygen and increased levels of carbon dioxide in the blood
(7) VISION ABNORMALITIES....excess alcohol can lead to blurring of vision and double vision
(8) EFFECTS ON
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM...aqlcohol is basically a CNS depressent and effects of excess alcohol on CNS are most promi8nent and dangerous in comparison to other organs of the body and various possible effects includes --
- disturbances in the level of consiousness/attention/perception
- acute memory loss
- impaired sense of judgement
- loss of muscle co-ordination leading to
unsteady gait and walk
- impaired cognition i.e thoughts
- tremors
- behavioural changes such as agressiveness/excessive talking/emotional burst outs/disorderly conduct/euphoria or depression
- severe headache
- slurred speech
- tremors
i would suggest you to visit a nearby doctor so that he can perform a physical and clinical examination along with few investigations for evaluation of any potential complication and can prescribe you the treatment accordingly....and kindly take care in future that your wife dont indulge into such acute
alcohol intoxication..
take care
