What Are The Effects Of Swallowing Thermometer Mercury?

Hello, a thermometer broke while a child tried to pry ice out of ice dispenser in freezer......my mother got ice and found the other half of the thermometer floating in her tea last night. She says she has had a terrible taste in her mouth and throaght. We don t know if she s actually swallowed mercury or not. What should she do?

I am Dr Aimen Nasir. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.
She probably might have ingested mercury in a small quantity thats why she is having a terrible taste in mouth and throat..
But not to worry even if she ingested that mercury from the thermometer.. thermometers contain very few amount of mercury in them that cannot possibly cause any toxicity..
but if any kind of symptoms happen that are given below you can consult your physcian or go to a nearby Hospital
●Cough
●Breathing Difficulty
●Chest Pain
●Breathlessness
●Feeling irritable or nervous
●Tremors
