Hello,
the classical triad of
diabetes symptoms is thirst,
polyuria (excessive urine production) and
weight loss. They are caused by
hyperglycemia which means increased blood glucose levels. Glucose is excreted into the urine and causes increased fluid loss.
These symptoms are not that specific for diabetes though. It is possible that somebody has these symptoms but no impaired glucose control. In order to determine whether diabetes is present or not, the best you can do is an oral
glucose tolerance test and a glucosylated
hemoglobin. The first test is the most important. This consists of two measurements of blood glucose. The first measurement requires fasting for 8 hours. After the blood is drawn, you'll be given 75 grams of glucose which should be consumed fast. 2 hours later another measurement of blood glucose will determine whether your body can cope with glucose loads.
Please note that you should prepare for the test by eating enough carbohydrates for 3 consecutive days before the test which means eating pasta, rice, potatoes, fruits, etc and perhaps small quantities of sweats. The lab should be able to give you more specific guidance on that, if you'll need it.
When you've done the test, please ask me again providing the results.
I hope I've shed some light into your situation.
If you need further explanations, please ask and I'll be glad to provide them.
Kind Regards!
