What Are The Chances Of Survival While Punctured Lung?

My 95 year old great grandparent stood up on a chair and fell, he has right side broken ribs and they punctured his lung. He has been in intensive care since tuesday, he has no infection, no fever, and today just a bit of swelling. No previous medical conditions of any kind. What are his chances of survival?

Thank you for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear about your great grandfather's recent fall and punctured lung. This is a serious condition but it sounds like he was seen promptly. If the lung re-inflated then his chances of recovery are good as long as he has no other problems. After a punctured lung he could develop pneumonia and that maybe very difficult to cure in a 95 year old male. I hope he improves and returns home. It may take him lots of time and even further rehabilitation therapy before he can return home
