What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy With Trisprintec And Irregular Periods?

Hi doctor. I m 22 (almost 23) years old and trying to conceive. I was on Tri-Sprintec for a year (may 2010-may 2011). I m 5 2 and I m not sure how much I weigh-I would say I m overweight but not obese (however have begun watching my diet to lose weight but stay healthy). Since June, I m on my 3rd period, however that is not really considered irregular for me. Ever since I started having periods 6 weeks is normal and even 8-10 weeks not unheard of (without ever being pregnant). I ve just always had really long, irregular cycles. In spite of my long cycles, according to ovulation predictors, I do ovulate every cycle-2 weeks before my period starts. I m concerned about my long, irregular cycles and whether it will prevent me from getting pregnant and if anything can be done to make them more normal. I ve read a little about PCOS and was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about also. So basically what I really would like to know is 1) How long does it usually take to get pregnant after trisprintec/could this still be in my system 4-5 months after I ve been off them? 2) Is there a way to get my cycles more regular (ideally 4 weeks) without going on birthcontrol and could my unusual cycles be keeping me from getting pregnant and 3) Is it likely that I have PCOS?

Tri-Sprintec are in fact birth control pills and they are used for you probably to regularise your cycles. If with these tablets also your cycles have not become regular after three months, probably you have to consider switching over to some other treatment.
From your description I also feel you could be having PCOS. What is your BMI? What is your waist circumference? Do you have rather course hair on the legs, abdomen, chest and/or face? Your menstrual pattern does suggest PCOS.
Before starting any treatment, I would advice you to get your LH and FSH blood levels done. Let these be tested on first or second day of the menses.
Ultrasonography will help to diagnose PCOS. Also get your ultrasonography monitoring done for egg release.
Association of PCOS with Diabetes and/or high insulin levels is proved now. So get yourself tested for diabetes also.
Also Thyroid levels will help us.
Please get your diagnosis done first before you start taking any hormonal treatment. Though from your history you appear to be a case of PCOS, it has to be confirmed by clinical examination and investigations.
If treated early and effectively, PCOS can be controlled and pregnancy chances now a days with modern treatment are quite good.
Apart from the medications, please concentrate on your diet and exercises.
Low fat, high protein diet is good for you.
Exercises in the open air are good than Gym closed room exercises. You should walk for at least 40 minutes at a stretch at the rate of 90 steps per minute. Open air exercises should be 1 hour before the sunset or after the sunrise to get maximum oxygen without sun burns.
