What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Taking Depo Provera?
Hi I got my birth control shot depo July 30th and I m not suppose to come back until September 15-29 and me and my boyfriend just had unprotected sex and he thinks he came in me a little and I ve been on my period ever since I got on the depo shot am I going to be pregnant ?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Depo Provera contains 'medroxyprogesterone'. It is a form of progesterone which prevents ovulation and also causes changes the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Hence, it is used as long-term contraceptive (about 3 months) to prevent pregnancy. It is highly effective contraceptive with a failure rate of less than 1 percent. Initially, for the first two weeks after the shot, it is advisable to use other methods of contraception like condom and spermicidal agents. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
