What Are The Chances Of Herpes Transmission Through Saliva?

I have herpes from receiving oral sex from a man with type 1 herpes(coldsore). I have kissed and performed oral sex on a new partner and now I m concerned that I could have transmitted to him through this, I was not in an outbreak at the time, but I ve read conflicting things as to whether it can be passed through saliva or sitting in a bath with someone. This man has Type 1 because he has cold sore outbreaks, so does this make him more likely to get genital herpes from me because I ve kissed him and performed oral on him?

Hi..
Thanks for the query.

As per your complain Oral Herpes is caused by HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 1 and it causes cold sores and it is a highly contagious disease which can transfer from one person to another via skin to skin contact as well as through bodily fluids like saliva, semen, vaginal fluid etc..
When there is no outbreak even then the virus can be present in less numbers over the skin surface and in the fluids and can be transferred to the other partner during intimate contact..
When the body immunity gets low or the viral count increase there is an outbreak and in case with an individual who already had previous infection has a higher susceptibility of getting outbreak with viral exposure and you could have transferred infection to your partner through Felatio or oral sex..
So in your case you and your partner both are at a risk of getting an outbreak of infection so it will be better to consult a Physician and get tested by investigations like Viral culture, Polymerase chain reaction etc so that you can be treated before hand if required..
Both of you can take a Preventive antiviral therapy like oral ACYCLOVIR or FAMICYCLOVIR or VALACYCLOVIR for reducing viral count and prevent outbreak of infection..

Hope this helps..

Thanks and regards..
