What Are The Chances Of Getting Pregnant If We Had Intercourse While Nuvaring Was Removed?
The nuvaring pamphlet says I am still protected against pregnancy if the ring comes out as long as it is replaced within 3 hours or less. The ring has decreased the full pleasure of intercourse and my husband I decided to take the ring out, have intercourse, an then put ring back in immediately after. Is there a risk of pregnancy doing this?
Ovulation inhibition persists for many hours or days after the ring is removed specially if this happens near the final days of use (21 days). In fact, after removal at day 21 for withdrawal bleeding to occur there is no ovulation in the next 7 days. In your case there is no risk of pregnancy if the ring is reinserted a couple of hours later, the problem is that people forget to reinsert the device again and believing that the ring is in place they have unprotected sex and Voila! Pregnant! Even if the device is not used for 24 hours there is little chance of getting pregnant. More than 48 hours? Consider the use of condoms for the rest of the cycle or the fresh start of a new ring after the next menstruation
