What Are The Adverse Effects Of A Misplaced Stent?

what happens if a stent is mis-placed? age = 60 height = 5 1 weight = 53 kgs no history of ill health, had 2 episodes of palpitations after a particularly stressful period, all blood tests and cholesterol tests were ok but had one smaill blip on stress test with only 8 minutes to go to the end of the 30 minutes. Angiogram was done & stent placed (it took 3 hours to do what they said was going to be a 30 minute procedure), and I have had pain ever since - where I never had any pain before nor with the palpitations. I wonder if my stent was actually needed and/or if it was mis-placed.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care magic, I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely, I understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.

About the need of stent I would like to say that narrowing of vessels causing ischemia can present with palpitations and changes in stress test ECG strip. Your angiography was done and then stent was placed, a doctor would never do that if it wasn't needed as this would be dangerous for the patient and doctor both. It's all a recorded procedure you must be having a copy of procedure Cd yourself so get that doubt out of your mind that a stent could have been placed without need.

Secondly about misplaced stent, well a stent doesn't really get misplaced, it is quite firmly fitted in the vessel. If you are having pain it is always the best option to talk to your doctor about this new pain a doctor can guide you better in this regard as this can be neuro muscular in origin.A doctor can run some tests like echo, stress echo, radio scan , CT angio to see if everything is working fine.

In your case it is less likely that pain is cardiac in origin and even if it is.. it would have been caused by a very minor vessel which is not dangerous , otherwise doctors would have opened it to.

I would suggest you not to panic and contact your doctor regarding your problem, This doesn't seem to be anything serious.

I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I am happy to answer you.
Regards.

Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
