General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The Hb is low and the ESR is very high. The neutro, lymph and mono are types of white blood cells. White blood cells go up if an infection is present and the total white cell count value was not mentioned, that is more important than the break down of the types of white blood cells.

You need additional bloods such as :

(1) serum protein electrophoresis - looks for certain proteins in the blood that can go up in different circumstances

(2) calcium , albumin and globulin

(3) liver and kidney function tests

(4) autoimmune diseases such as lupus, RA can cause intermittent fever though these are less likely since there is no joint pain

(5) a spinal tap would be to check the fluid circulating around the spine and brain. All potential sites and sources of infection, if this is the cause, need to be evaluated.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
