Hi - I have a 6 day old daughter who has darker forehead with excess dark hair; It is not very fine so I am not sure if it is lanugo. When will it shed? she was diagnosed with congenital hyperthyroidism - her body is not making enough thyroid so her tsh is high. Does this have anything to do with that?
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
If her body is not producing enough thyroid hormone, the condition is called 'hypothyroidism' and not 'hyperthyroidism'. When body is not producing enough thyroid hormone TSH will be high in hypothyroidism. Please upload the thyroid function reports to answer the question better. Increased hair growth in fore head is not related to hypothyroidism.
This is most probably lanugo hair.
Lanugo hair will usually shed in less than 1 months time. It may persist up to 3 months in some infants.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
