What Are Delayed Periods And Negative Result In HPT Suggestive Of?

I am very confused. Maybe someone is able to help me better understand. I am currently 8 days late for my period. My last period started Dec. 16th. It lasted for 7 days. I took a pregnancy test yesterday, and it was negative. I am experiencing swollen breast, cramping, discharge, fatigue, a little bit of nausea, and I ve been a bit moody latley. I have an appointment with my Gyno Monday. Is there anything else I can do in the mean time? Thank you

Thank you for your query.

Your symptoms may occur in pregnancy as well as part of the premenstrual syndrome(PMS). In both scenarios, fluctuations and level of hormones that regulate periods and support pregnancy can lead to a wide range of nonspecific symptoms.

If your cycles are regular and you had interiors around your ovulation time, your delayed period could indicate pregnancy (15-25‰chance)

High levels of stress, major lifestyle changes, unusual heavy exercise, travel across time zones, sudden weight gain/loss, thyroid hormone imbalances may all lead to delayed/irregular cycles.
Occasionally, functional ovarian cysts which can disrupt the hormonal cycle may cause irregular periods. These usually go away on their own in 2-3 months.

I suggest you wait for one more week (till your periods are 2 weeks late), take another home pregnancy test and see your OBGYN with the results.

If it's negative, don't be upset. It takes an average of one year for a woman below the age of 30 to conceive normally. If you have been trying to conceive for over a year or 6months (if you are over 30), I recommend seeing your OBGYN /fertility specialist.

Ovarian cysts, if persistent (more than 3 months), too big, complex, needs to come out or be removed surgically or suppressed by medicines depending on the type, size and effects on the body.
Please try to distract yourself during the waiting period and try to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.
Quit smoking & alcohol, reduce caffeine intake, take your folic acid supplements while trying to conceive.

Hope I've been helpful. Please get back to us if you have any questions.
Wish you good health
