I was on Prednisone for approximately one year for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I recently was weaned off of it. Approx 3 days after stopping I developed swelling inside of my cheeks in my mouth, a painful and sore tongue, tingling of the lips and face. This has now lasted for 8 weeks. The muscles under the tongue and on the sides are extremely painful and the top of the tongue feels scalded. My doctor thinks it is Burning Mouth Syndrome. I have been taken off all my meds including Enbrel for RA. He is now treating me with Clotrimazole lozenges in the mouth and a mouthwash. So far nothing has changed. Do you think that coming off the Prednisone has caused this problem and what can be done about it?
