Weakness, Increased Heart Beat After PTCA Treatment. Prescribed MET-XL. Uses And Side Effects?

My father underwent PTCA 6 days back. He was discharged from the hospital two days back. He feels weakness but no dizzyness, no nausea, no chest pain, no headaches nor sweating.

In addition to feeling weak, he felt an increase in heart beat. The heart rate was determined as 150/80. The doctor has prescribed MET-XL 25 mg (once a day) to be continued till the next checkup. Please find below a couple of queries about MET-XL below and advise.

1) What is the use of MET-XL.? Please explain in layman's language.
2) What are the side-effects of MET-XL. If there are any side-effects of MET-XL, please advise how harmful they can be ?

Hello,
Thanks for your inquiry
Your father underwent PTCA 6 months back. After discharge he feels weak,
But no dizziness, no nausea, no chest pain, no headaches nor sweating.
His BP is 150/80.
He is on Met XL 25 mg once a day to be continued till next check up.
Explaining in lay words the MET XL 25 indicated for so many heart conditions, one among them is for Hypertension.
It is very difficult to explain the side effect in layman words, without confusing you.
Explaining you in layman terms your father is not experiencing any obvious side effects of MET XL.
Your father is comfortable with the treatment he is getting now. The weakness and increased heart beat are not the obvious side effect of MET XL 25. Rest of the treatment leave it to doctor.
Best wishes to you and your father
