Watery, Yellow, Liquid Diarrhea Followed By Pain And Gurgling Sound In Abdomen At Regualar Time. No Gluten Intolerance Issue. Possible IBS?

Hello, I have watery yellow liquid diahorrea preceded by abdominal pain that wakes me up. It is very painful and a gurgling sound occurs to the left side of my abdomen. It sometimes occurs in the late afternoon when I get home. I have tried to adapt my eating pattern to no avail. This has been going on for a number of years. I have had tests for gluten intolerance and so forth (no issues) but am concerned that a diagnosis of IBS does not sit well with the fact that it occurs exactly at the same times every day irrespective of what I eat. I would appreciate any feedback.

Many thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
One or two motions /days is not diarrhea .
The consistency is the main thing , solid , semi-solid, loose , watery , are the main forms of stool.
Since ,you are having this diarrhea type disorder from many years .
In my opinion the cause may be tension ( stress related disorder).
This may be due to habit .
As in tension the motility of intestine increases hence person develops loose motion.
Every report is normal so don't worry and try to change the habit .
Still no relief than consult a psychiatrist and get his opinion.
Good luck.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Apart from Gluten intolerance, There are some causes for this type of chronic diarrhoea.

Irritable bowel syndrome
Lactose intolerance
Recurrent chronic infection.
Thyrotoxicosis
Even Diabetes can cause chronic diarrhoea.
An inheritable disease called cystic fibrosis also cause chronic diarrhoea.

IBS criteria are
Abdominal pain or discomfort at least 12 weeks (which need not be consecutive) in the preceding 12 months, that has two out of three of these features:

1. Relieved with defecation; and/or
2. Onset associated with a change in frequency of stool; and/or
3. Onset associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.
You need further investigations to rule out some diseases.
1. Stool for ova and cyst, Stool culture.
Stool for occult blood to rule out cancer and parasitic infection
2. Flexible sigmoidoscopy
3.Colonoscopy
4. Lactose intolerance tests
5. CT abdomen.

Depends upon the cause treatment may vary.
please consult a Gastroenterologist with the reports.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
