Apart from Gluten intolerance, There are some causes for this type of chronic
diarrhoea.
Irritable bowel syndrome
Lactose intolerance
Recurrent chronic infection.
Thyrotoxicosis
Even
Diabetes can cause chronic diarrhoea.
An inheritable disease called
cystic fibrosis also cause chronic diarrhoea.
IBS criteria are
Abdominal pain or discomfort at least 12 weeks (which need not be consecutive) in the preceding 12 months, that has two out of three of these features:
1. Relieved with defecation; and/or
2. Onset associated with a change in frequency of stool; and/or
3. Onset associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.
You need further investigations to rule out some diseases.
1. Stool for ova and cyst, Stool culture.
Stool for occult blood to rule out cancer and parasitic infection
2. Flexible sigmoidoscopy
3.Colonoscopy
4. Lactose intolerance tests
5. CT abdomen.
Depends upon the cause treatment may vary.
