Was Nipped By A Stray Cat. Taken Anti Tetanus And Anti Rabies Shots 4 Yrs Ago. Should It Be Taken Now?
last tuesday i was nipped by a stray cat that i have adopted and has been with me for 3 months now. i was the bite site with soap and water but when i dabbed it with alcohol it stung and i realised i have 2 prick marks on my leg. it bled a little and dabbed it with betadine. i had a booster shot at the local animal bite center since i already had anti tetanus and anti rabies shots 4 yrs ago when my dog;s teeth scratched the skin on my hand. do i need to get another anti-tetanus shot? its been 3 days and the prick marks are still red though the redness has not spread really.do i also need oral antibiotics?
Hi ! I do not consider you for another shot of anti-tetanus shot at present. I think you better take preventive antibiotics on consultation with your family doctor, because any teeth bite is vulnerable to any kind of bacterial infection ,specially anaerobic infection. You also may have to take some anti inflammatory drugs along with it. Wishing you an early recovery.
