Was A Drug Addict; Injecting Meth. Veins Are Damaged. Is There A Way To Bring It Back To Normal?

Hi, I was introduced to injecting meth from by ex-boyfriend and now kicking this from my life im reminded by the damage in my veins. I go to have blood drawn and the nurses have trouble, its embarrassing and a shameful reminder. I did it for eight months, and ive missed before, or would pull in and out, or use the same needle more than once. i cant feel or see my veins in my arm and there is scar tissue. I think i collapsed a few there. Please is there anything i can do to get them back? Can i apply anything? I just want to leave this in my past and never do this to myself again. i atleast should have looked up properly how to do it but i didnt know any better and made the wrong decision all together.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concern. It seems like you have flashbacks when you see needles and it is not an uncommon phenomenon for someone in your situation, who had used intravenous drugs in the past. I am also thinking here that if you are trying to avoid needles you may have post traumatic stress which is a common condition that will have to have psychiatric attention. I am also thinking that you may not have used your leg veins to inject and that may be an alternative site to get your blood draws. I hope this suggestion helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
