General & Family Physician, Dr. Praveen's Response
Hi.Non-drug treatments for eczema include - Mild soap and moisturizer.Drugs like steroid (hydrocortisone cream/ointment), oral anthistaminics relieve itching and are used for the management of mild eczema.Oral steroids, Immunosupressants/Imunomodulators and UV therapy are used for treatment of moderate to severe eczema which donot respond to topical therapy.I suggest to meet a dermatologist for further management since it depends on the the type(mild/moderate/severe) and area of extent of involvement of skin. Take steps to reduce stress. Get regular exercise and set aside time to relax. Avoid taking very hot or very long showers or baths, which can dry out your skin.Hope this helps.Take care.
