In case of sinusitis the patient has infection in the paranasal sinuses which leads to stuffy nose, pain in the frontal region(forehead and just below the eyebrows and also the eyes), near the maxillary area ( the sides of the nostrils and cheeks).Pain would increase if you apply pressure in these areas. It can be due to certain allergies, or infections or any auto immune diseases. Apart from these they would also have nasal stuffiness while being in an air conditioned environment, and also have a yellow/green coloured thick discharge and a post nasal discharge associated with fever, body ache and fatigue. Recurrent sinusitis is caused to any obstruction in the nostrils like polyps, Blockage of drainage ducts, structural differences that narrow the drainage duct and due to a deviated nasal septum. This has to be evaluated to stop further attacks. As your girlfriend wakes up with body aches, cold sweats and bad cough and head ache, it could be a case of sinusitis with infected mucus, in which case you need to meet a doctor( otorhinolarygologist- Ear nose throat specialist)) to get medical treatment for the infection. Nasal irrigation can be done at a hospital for relief. Nasal decongestants and saline nasal sprays and vaporizers can be used for relief. Warm compresses over the area can give relief. And advise her to take steam inhalation (3-4 times) for quick relief. Avoid dust, or any other triggering factors. Avoid smoking if she is a smoker. Drink lots of fluids to thin out the secretion. Convince your girlfriend to meet a doctor to do a screening and find the real cause of recurrent sinusitis, so she can be relieved from the problem. I hope this answer would help you.
