Vision Blacks Out. What Is The Pressure Or Pain She Experiences? Is That Serious?

hi, my daughter is 12 years old. recently she tells us for a while now when walking or lying down her vision fades to black in both eyes from the outside towards her nose as it fades then she feels a weird sensation or pressure or slight pain afterwards. she says it only lasts a few seconds then back to normal. we went to an opthamologists and they didn t find anything so far. they are going to do another test at the next appointment, if nothing then will recommend seeing a neurologists. we are concerned, please tell us what you think.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,
It seems from the history that your daughter is experiencing sudden blackouts in vision. Sudden blackouts of vision lasting for few seconds and recovering completely is seen in transient ischemic attack. It is because of sudden decrease in the blood supply to brain.
The other common benign things to be considered are sudden change of posture, hypoglycemia.
If the common reasons are not there, she needs to undergo evaluation by neurologist as told by your ophthalmologist. Usually in the younger age group like your daughter no serious causes are seen. So no need to worry, but I still advice you to follow the instructions to rule out some rare causes as told by your ophthalmologist.
Thank you
