Valtrex For Cold Sores

Greetings and thank you for reading. Here's the scenerio in short form. The person I know very well gets cold sores I'd say maybe 3 and at most 4 per year. Now they take Valtrex 500 mg tablets at the rate of one tablet per day. The dosage for Valtrex to treat cold sores is only a couple of tablets when you feel a cold sore coming on. The person is being prescribe a daily dosage by their Dr. or P.A. My question is..Does that person have genital Herpes and keeping it a secret or is there actually a physicians assistant or doctor who would ever prescribe a daily 500mg dosage of Valtrex for cold sores only? I have a feeling this person is not telling the whole story.

Whether it is genital or non-genital, the basis of treatment is getting rid of the causative virus and the dosage shall be assessed on the severity, duration, patient's condition and many other factors as well.

Thank you for your response. I understand that numerous factors can determine a dosage. My question revolves around how typical a dosage of 500 mg per day is for some one who has been known to only get a couple of cold sores per year prior to taking Valtrex. I have solid evidence to believe the person may have contracted genital and is covering up by saying they are using the Valtrex soley for cold sores. I'm asking how typical a daily 500mg dosage is soley for cold sores.
