Hi Dr. - my friends mom just had routine out patient hernia surgery. Came out of the surgery just fine and then with in an hour or two, her blood pressure was off and they said there was internal bleeding so they brought her into surgery again and she died. She was 70 and in perfect health. How does this happen?

Thank you for the query.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. I am extremely sorry for the loss. You need to be aware of complications after hernia surgery which includes excessive bleeding after surgery but it is very rare. But when found need an immediate attention and even blood transfusion is also done. I think this happened due to the age factor and some bleeding disorder problems. Due to heavy bleeding patient may go to hypovolemic shock and death. So this is the thing happened and we cant change some situations as no one are responsible for this. Hope this answers your query. Thank you.
