Undergone Laproscopy. Developed UTI. Drain Has Excessive Fluid. Cause?

Yes...I had a laporoscopic radical hysterectomy last Tuesday and been recovering. Was sent home with a Jo drain and catheter. Two days ago I went to urgent care because I developed a severe UTI. My catheter was removed (five days after surgery) and now my JP drain has excessive fluid that looks like urine. Any connection and what is the recommendation?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone Laproscopic Hysterectomy one week back and now you are draining excessive fluid which looks like a urine from the drainage tube kept in peritoneal cavity.
Most likely that the bladder has been injured during surgery and there is communication between bladder and peritoneal cavity resulting into leakage of urine in peritoneal cavity.

Please get microscopic examination of the fluid done to confirm that it is urine.

Consult operating surgeon or Urologist for assessment. You may need to get endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy ) done to confirm the diagnosis.Further treatment will depend upon final diagnosis.
