I have a long history of clearing my throat of phlegm which I had checked by a specialist I was told I had acid reflux syndrom. This was a diagnosis that didn't make any sense because I have never in my life had heartburn or any other discomforts associated with ARS. My Dr. didn't believe me. Well, after following the strict protocol to alleviate ARS the symptoms of clearing my throat never improved. I was made to believe that it was a nervous habit. I knew it wasn't, because I was constantly removing small amounts of phlegm by coughing. My throat often felt sore and my voice got raspy. I learned to live with it and accept the discomfort for over 10 years.
About a week I developed a kind of tightness and soreness in the trachea at the point of the collar bone. This prevents me from taking normal breathes and leaves me exhausted. When I try to take a deeper breath if feels like my trachea is contracting and I immediately have to cough. I'm not coughing up any phlegm, except in the morning - a yellow/greenish color. I have an appointment to see my internist, but not for a week, because he is out of town. Should I treat this as a serious problem and go to urgent care? What do you think causes my symptoms?
